A Man and his Destination

by: Roger M. Cabeltes

Man Begins his journey of life, the time he comes out from his mother's womb. His first cry tells us that he is bound to suffer for life on earth is a matter of survival and struggle.

As he continues in his journey of life God gives him, his free will, for him to choose between righteous and evil and between right or wrong. God also bestowed upon him the freedom of choice to what kind of life he deserves to live on earth and on the next live after death.

As he continues in his journey of life he will learn to appreciate the beauty of nature which God created for mankind. He will also appreciate the bounty of living in this world together with his love ones.

Life on earth is not always a bed of roses for life is a mixture of happiness and sadness, success and defeat, victory and failure. Man needs to adjust to his environment for this world is like the jungle whose law  is survival of the fittest and the elimination of the unfit.

As life goes on, he will be confronted to many temptations as the lord who was tempted by Satan for forty days and forty nights. God was able to resist temptation for He is God and not human being. Man can never resist temptation for he was created from dust and cloth with imperfection like the first woman who was created by God from the rib of a man and was tempted by Satan to eat the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. That was the beginning of man’s disobedience to God and the beginnings of sins.

Human Limitations and human frailties makes Man to succumb to temptations such as the temptations for power, temptation of the flesh  and the temptation to acquire more wealth through elicit activities. The imperfection of man makes him a sinner with stain of sins. John the Baptist preached for the repentance of sins during his time. It is only through absolute repentance that a sinner can be purified.

The man ends his journey of life as the book of his life ends too. Before he died he was able to repent his sins and asked for God’s mercy and forgiveness.

As he entered heaven, the angels played their trumpets to welcome him. He now happily lives with God in his kingdom with the rest who have gone ahead of him, through eternity.

Success and Defeat

by: Rogelio "Sir" Cabeltes

Defeat in human existence:

A man in his lifetime will experience success and defeat for these are part of human existence. The great Napoleon Bonafarte, the commanding officer of the French Army won many battles but later met his defeat in the Battle of Waterloo.

Everyone who is born in this world will experience success in life  and as well as defeat, for life is a mixture of joy and sadness.

To some people, defeat make them stronger in character to overcome failures in life and for them to do better next time as they have learned from their mistakes and short comings.

To some people, defeat make them weaker and depressed. They have forgotten that life must go on in spite of poverty I was successful to finish my studies and got a stable job. I was successful to send all my children to college and finished a degree, including my wife and they are now all employed.
After my optional retirement from public schools. I was successful in my political career for I won for two terms as barangay kagawad of my barangay.

My first taste of defeat when I lost in the recent concluded barangay and SK elections last October 25, 2010. I did not expect that I'll not come out triumphant in that political exercises  for I campaigned on the basis of my accomplishments as barangay kagawad for two terms.

Accomplishments:

With humility, please allow me to enumerate some of my accomplishments in brief ;

      1.  In my capacity as the Chairman of the Committee of infrastructure and appropriations and chairman of the Bids and Awards Committee, I have worked for the smooth implementation of all barangay projects.

      2.  I initiated and spearheaded the establishments of the Recodo National High School and it was said by former Schools Division Superintendent Abdulrahim Kennoh, Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Norma Besina and former Executive Secretary to the Mayor Rosseler Natividad that yours truly is the Father of the Recodo National High School", during the ground breaking ceremony in 2008.

      3. Through the request of our barangay chairman, I have worked for two million pesos pork barrel fund of Honorable Congresswoman Ma. Isabelle Climaco Salazar for the Construction of Drainage and Multi-Purpose Pavements.

      4. In my capacity as Chairman of La Caldera TB Task Force, I have worked together with the officers and members of this TB Task Force, to curve down and to eradicate tuberculosis in barangay Recodo.
      5. Every year, I have looked for funding from the CDF of our City Councilors to finance some barangay projects.

      6. I have organized and established the Arzadon Homeowners Urban Poor Association in our barangay to give a piece of land to the landless poor residents of our barangay for them to build a home through the community mortgage program of the National Government in the acquisition of lot.

      7. Through the request of our Barangay chairman, I have represented the Barangay Government of Recodo, several times in public and social functions.
      8. I was given the honor by Mayor Celso L. Lobregat to deliver an oratorical piece in " Remembering Caling ", the late Mayor of Zamboanga City on her 4th Death Anniversary last January 02, 2008 at Jardin Maria Clara Lobregat, Pasonanca Park, Zamboanga City.

Thanks for the opportunities:

I am thankful, to the residence of Barangay Recodo, Zamboanga City, Philippines for giving me the opportunity to serve them for eight years. The Recodo National High School is my legacy and it is my trademark as a barangay leader.

The Fountain of Youth

by: Rogelio "Sir" Cabeltes

The Fountain of youth a myth or reality?

Generations to generation, people have been talking about the Fountain of Youth. But to their dismay from ancient time to present time, the Fountain of Youth was never uncovered and revealed.

Is there really a Fountain of Youth? Does it really exist? Is it just a legend that people would like to reveal its story for pleasure? Why people would like to stay in their youth forever? Youth is the symbol of strength and beauty. It is the symbol of love and affection. Youth symbolizes admiration, hope and good health. An old age person in their youthfulness will be the envy of everyone.

Searching for Fountain of  Youth?

Many people insist that there is a Fountain of Youth and still keep on searching for it. Many traveled from far and distant places believing that it can be found. Other tried to look for it on mountain ranges, on valleys and plains. Still other tried to look for it on river banks and in caves.

The Truth about the Fountain of  Youth.

The Fountain of Youth does really exist and for sure it can be found. You don’t need to travel to far places and climb a steep mountain. You don’t need to cross rivers or to search for it under the deep blue seas. The Fountain of Youth is in every man’s mind. The power of the mind that makes a person lives young, beautiful, healthy and strong forever. And of course with the blessings and guidance of Almighty God who created the Fountain of Youth in every man’s mind.
